I want to begin by thanking everyone for an amazing start to the school year. As I mentioned last week at Community Meeting, our Superintendent Bonnie was so excited during her walk though. She talked with some Kindergarteners in the hall, danced with the first graders and saw them book shop, saw the second and third graders writing furiously, listened as the fourth graders got to know one another, and while she didn’t see the fifth graders, they were downstairs at library and music, she loved the feel of their classrooms.
The ID system is now in full swing. Thank you for your patience as we make the system a routine for entering and staying in the building. If you forget your tag, please remember to sign in at security and get a visitors sticker. Once in the building please be sure to have your tag visible so that we know you belong on our floor. It may seem silly if you are a parent who has been with us for several years, but as times change in our city, we need to work together to put systems and routines in place to ensure the safety of our children.
This Thursday, September 22nd is open school night. As a staff we decided that we should dedicate this time to talking about the curriculums your children will experience this year. Your teachers will host two sessions, one at 5 and one at 6, so that we can accommodate families with siblings. Childcare will be provided at 6 for students of MTW. Thank you to the staff of extended day and Tisa for arranging this service for us. If your child is in extended day already, you must sign them out and then bring them back for the later session of childcare.
Classes will get to vote this week on their three top choices for our Community Standards. I was impressed at the thought and care that went into how classes talked about and chose the standard to present. We are going to spend the year working to remind one another of these standards both inside the classroom and out. Tisa also sent home the rules of the cafeteria so that families could discuss them at home. As always the goal in places like the cafeteria and recess yard is safety and the rules are in place to ensure that all children are safe during their time there.
I wish everyone a wonderful week and look forward to seeing you in the halls of MTW.
